The Ninth Annual Russ Douglas-Phoenix Golf Classic was held on Monday, June 9, at River Oaks in Cottage Grove. The 113 golfers were able to enjoy a beautiful day out on the course. We would like to thank Bruce Anderson and the entire staff at River Oaks for all their efforts in assuring that our tournament runs smoothly.

The golf event continues to be a successful major fundraising event for The Phoenix Residence, Inc. With the support of our event sponsors, silent auction and raffle prize donors, golfers and guests, we were able to raise $37,000 at this year’s event. Once everyone made it into the clubhouse (which was actually relatively early this year), they enjoyed the social hour, followed by dinner and a short program. Winners of our golf contests were announced at dinner. Congratulations to our top three teams: 1st Place, TR Computer Sales; 2nd Place, Financial Concepts; 3rd Place Patrick McDonnell and crew! Other prize winners were Ken Hinz, longest drive men; Gail Schmitt, longest drive women, Debbie Schmitt, accuracy drive; Bruce Singer, closest to the pin, and Paul Sellwood, longest putt.

The Silent Auction and Raffle was held in conjunction with the golf event. We had some great items in our Silent Auction and Raffle this year. Prizes included: LPGA Tickets, Waldheim Resort, Lilydale Pool and Yacht Club, Twins Tickets, iPod, LCD television, Nintendo Wii game systems and more. Thanks to all business, vendors and staff who donated items for the auction and raflle.

Hats of to all of the volunteers who helped at the event! We enjoyed having the group from 3M Cares Volunteer again this year, as well as Brady Callinan, Emma Docken, and Peg Schmitt. Of course we also thank Dan Cole, "The Common Man" of KFAN Radio for his continued support of our event by volunteering to emcee our event. Dan has been with us now for nine years, so thanks so much Dan.
